Gulmarg Gondola is the second longest and second tallest cable car in the world and the main attraction in Gulmarg. Divided into two stages, it ferries about 600 people per hour and from the Aphrawat Mountains.

The cable car ride takes place in two levels/stages. Phase I: from the Gulmarg resort to Kongdori Station (2600 m) in the bowl-shaped Kongdori Valley which takes 9 minutes to reach. Phase II: from Kongdori Station to Kongdori Mountain (3747 m), the shoulder of Apharwat Peak which takes 12 minutes.

The Phase III has chairlifts which connects Kongdori to Mary Shoulder where skii events takes place. It takes around 11 mins for the chairlift to go from one point to another. 

Gulmarg Gondola offers a spectacular view of Nandadevi, LOC and Pir Panjal Range. Apart from nurturing the beauty of the Himalayan ranges, tourists can enjoy other activities such as horse riding and snow skiing.

The Cable Car Project is a joint venture of the Jammu & Kashmir Government and French from Pomagalski. The Phase I was completed in 1998 and Phase II was completed in two years and it opened for public in May 2005.

Important Notes :

1. The winter season is the best time to enjoy the ride on Gulmarg Gondola due to the most amazing skiing opportunity. However, the cable car ride is available all through the year.
2, One can Book tickets for Gulmarg Gondola online to avoid the hassle of standing in a queue and the unavailability of slots.
3. The boarding pass for Gulmarg Gondola is valid for 3 hours from the time it is handed over to you. However, if you are given the pass at 3 PM, it will be valid for 2 hours, since the cable car ride closes at 5:00PM.
